My compliments for your site and sorry for writing english. My czech is bad. But soon I plan to move to CZ for living. Then I want to bring my mini too. But it is not standard anymore. Will this be a problem to get CZ license plates? Now I live in The Netherlands.

Basic car is mini special 1980

Lcb with rc40 exhaust
Mikuni PHH44 (Double carb like weber 45)

13 inch wheels with175/50 tires
Hi-lo's and negative camber
Metro turbo brake discs instead of drum at front
Etc etc.

Thank you very much for reply, Bart

Hi, your mini looks cool 8) , all the stuff around... Rock N Roll! I m not sure how is it in Czech rep. but in Slovakia /that´s where i m from, and i think both we have similiar systems with cars and registrations/ , if you have any changes on your car , like different wheels, sport seats, seatbelts, etc. it should be noted in the papers, i mean documents from car. And i think guys in Czech have same system with cars... So if you will bring your car from NL to CR , you probably will go to couple controls, before you get czech plates, and on those controls they may do trouble , if you miss anything in documents /like i wrote before, wheels, sport chairs.../ . this is what i m think.. because thats how it works in Slovakia... :? but don´t worry, be mini :bigups: wait for more answers from others...

Having all those papers would be my biggest fear. I know in Germany they have TUV and when you mount something to your car it must have this TUV proofing. Anyhow, just realize this is an old car with modification parts which were almost common on Mini since 1959. In The Netherlands we never had to proof anything with papers and modifications like a flip front are allowed in case they are done in a proper way. In some cases, like changing fuel type, more cilinders etc you have to do a technical test. But for some sport seats this is not an issue. Summarizing I do not have papers of the non-original bits. Aside that, many of these parts I have made myself.

I know from the kitcar people that some types of cars were not technically allowed in The Netherlands straight away, when importing from outside EU. But for instance UNited KIngdom has other guidelines which are easier. Just when the car has a registration within the EU, it was easy to get it registered in The Netherlands.

Would it be recommendable to have the test done in CZ with help from a local Mini specialist? Maybe then I can find some documentation of many parts.

Hi, my opinion is, that you may have a lot of possible problems.

Firstly as you want to live in CZ, first of all you need to have Rodné číslo - Czech birth registration number. Thats quite new law in CZ.
But this the point where you should start. I recommend to discuss all this with some foreigner, living in CZ.
As you will not find any contact, I can ask to someone (having Mini, born in Belgium, living in CZ).

I find interesting link http://www.registr-vozidel.cz/car-registration/car-registration-foreigners
but as always, this is service for somebody going to register usual VW or Opel, not Rover Mini.

Possible problems may be your special car with many specific details.
As it is possible, to use your car less than 184 days a year in CZ, use present NL registration and insurance. As your car will be in garage during winter for 6 months, you will visit Netherland once in two years for making NL TUV-ASU for next two years, and thats it.
Because, before registration in CZ you should have document, that you canceled registration in NL - means no way back.

Secondary problem, I think much bigger, is: ORV ( OTP ) se mimo trvalý pobyt omezuje na dobu povolení k pobytu - as you will not have Trvaly pobyt - Permanent residence in CZ in documents (czech document for foreigners), you will probably have Povoleni k pobytu Sojourn residence permit in CZ - means for limited time (one two years) you will have your Czech registration valid ONLY for tis limited time.
Therefore its hard to make the decision, what you should exactly do.

And I found one more specific question - I am not sure, that you can legally drive as Czech resident with czech documents a car with NL registration longer than 184 days or one year.
I was for 3 years in Berlin and I was also having a lot of problems. They ask for german driving license etc.
Finaly I made my resident documents every year from 3.1. to 23.12. so every year starts new period and I fulfil the german laws (of course always new passport). I was there with my Austin and because of Brno town registration I had BMU0315 plate and BM could also mean Berlin Mitte, so zero problems. But it was luck, with Prague car registration plate it may were other.

Or, you can legally  buy the documents from some Mini in CZ and use this metal plate (label) and use existing documents. Together with NL registration. Or overwrite the chasis number etc. There are also many possibilities.

Contact on me you can find in my profile and my skype is agmartin1

Good luck

See overview- schedule what all you should do: http://www.hrabyova.cz/prihlasovani-vozidel-prihlaseni-vozidla-registrace-dovezeneho-vozidla/
see sector A and B (not C - new cars).

Thanks Murphy for your detailed reply.
Regarding my move: if I go there, it is intended to be a permanent stay, while I will keep my Dutch nationality.
I am married and my wife is Czech. She lives in Holland with a permanent permit for 10 years now. As EU member I would expect the same possibilities for me in CZ. The fact we will stay there permanently makes it more difficult to justify to have a car registered on Dutch plates.

Homologation of cars has changed in the last years. Since 1997 there is the european type approval, which makes it easy to have a Certificate Of Conformity handed out by the distributor. But cars older than 1997 are on a national type approval.
We sense in Holland this makes live easier for the oldtimers, bacause everything is focussed on the modern car. The old cars are like cultural heritage and not of big influence.
BUt:I remember app. 10 years ago it became very hard to import older cars to CZ due to an emission law. I worked for the Skoda distributor then and heard this from my dealers who did export some older Favorits to CZ. At a certain moment only the last monomotronic types were allowed.
Is such matter of influence to the old and dear mini too?

hi. How R U
my recomendation is find someone who has pare papework and do it by black way. keep your foreing registration with chasy number plate. you said is 80s so just change alu chasy no. plate and registration plate and job done. it works like you bought older car just chnge color in registration paper etc. nobody know what it looks like before.
also i think you can use your car with registration of your country just need have everithing ok for road check (insurance, technical test, etc...)
hava a fun
